Crissy Field gives access to some of the most stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, making it an ideal location for engagement photos in San Francisco.

Crissy Field Engagement Photos

Located at the northeast end of San Francisco’s Presidio, sits the beautiful and historical Crissy Field with a wide open field and some of the best views of the Golden Gate. This location was once the site of a military research site for aviation during World War II, and now in its place you have beautiful buildings with the iconic bridge peeking through. It has a wide-open field with grass that stays green year-round, but you can expect the fog quite often, especially in the summertime.

Battery Spencer sits nearby with another beautiful perspective of the bridge, to give your gallery plenty of variety. You can also venture to Golden Gate Beach, only a short walk away. This location is absolutely ideal to have a wide range of backdrops, without having to travel far. Additionally, there is a brewery across the street, which would make the best pre or post-engagement shoot stop to celebrate this special occasion!

San Francisco Engagement Photo Locations

The biggest benefit to planning engagement photos in San Francisco is the amount of variety you have in locations, all so beautiful in their own way. Here are others to consider!

  • Baker Beach: This location gives you a beach view of the Bridge, and it is very accessible with a parking lot and ramp taking you down to the beach.
  • Twin Peaks: This spot has a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge, and is just a short walk over from Crissy Field, making it a perfect two-for-one situation.
  • Marin Headlands: This location has some of the most epic views of the bridge, with many options for trails to take.
  • Marshall’s Beach: Here you’ll have another beach view of the bridge, with a very reasonable 15-20 minute hike down there.
  • Golden Gate Park: This park is huge and filled with a wide variety of backdrops to choose from, and has plenty of space to explore with your person.
  • Pier 7: This is an ideal spot for exploring and it gives you amazing views of the Bay Bridge and Transamerica building on the walk back to the city.
  • Palace of the Arts: Here you’ll find some pretty magical architecture, gorgeous gardens and a stunning pond that makes an ideal backdrop.

When to Take Engagement Photos at Crissy Field

To ensure you have the engagement photos you’ve always dreamed of with the perfect setting, here is what each season looks like to help you plan your session!

  • Spring: Spring brings fresh greenery and blooming florals, particularly in Golden Gate Park and botanical locations. While temperatures remain mild, mornings and late afternoons can be cooler. Occasional fog or drizzle is common, but the light tends to be soft and flattering.
  • Summer: Contrary to typical summer expectations, San Francisco summers are often foggy and chilly, especially in June and July. The marine layer can blanket coastal areas, creating a soft, moody backdrop at places like Marshall’s Beach. For more sun, head inland or shoot in the afternoon.
  • Fall: Fall is arguably the best time for engagement photos. The weather is warmest, skies are clear, and the golden hour light is rich and warm. Many locations shine beautifully this time of year with less wind and more predictability.
  • Winter: While winter can bring rain, it also offers crisp air, quieter locations, and lush greenery following storms. The moodier atmosphere creates more of a dramatic setting, just keep the forecast in mind and plan for flexibility.

Each season has its own charm, and choosing the time of year all depends on the ambiance you’re drawn to, whether it’s full of vibrant blooms or fog-drenched views of Golden Gate.
